The iconic Henry Hoover by Numatic International has earned a place in our hearts and homes with its unbeatable power and reliability. And now, a new, modern version of this beloved vacuum has arrived – Henry Cordless. With no cords to hold it back, this battery-powered model is lighter and more nimble than ever before. But can it live up to the high standards set by its corded predecessors? How does it compare to the tried and true models we know and love? Is Cordless Henry as good as corded Henry? Let’s take a closer look at what Henry Cordless has to offer.
What Makes Henry Cordless Different
Henry Cordless is powered by a 36V Li-ion battery and as a result is smaller, lighter and lacks a cord
Pros
- Portable and lightweight
- Performance is good for general household cleaning
- No cords to tangle
Cons
- Battery life may not last for full house clean
- Suction is not as good as a corded Henry
- High/future costs of replacement batteries
Our Verdict
Henry Cordless is a great little vacuum. Although its power is reduced compared to Henry, it is so convenient and easy to navigate around the home, the car, the caravan or wherever you feel inspired to vacuum. It’s a neat cross-over between corded Henry and cumbersome battery-powered stick vacuums, the key feature being the versatility of cordless cleaning. I believe that Henry Cordless is the best cordless vacuum for hardfloors and carpet

Features
The Henry Cordless model boasts all the same excellent features of the standard Henry Vacuum: An uncomplicated design, extended reach, and convenient storage for on-board tools.
What separates Cordless from other Henry models is the cordless design by use of a rechargeable battery. Although it compromises power, it transforms the Henry Cordless into a portable, lightweight and quieter vacuum option.
Filter
Just like Henry, Henry Cordless boasts a two-stage filtration system that is designed to keep your home free of dust, debris and dander
The first stage of the filter system is the HepaFlo filter bag, which has been specially developed to trap dust, debris and dander. These bags are large and thick with a generous capacity of 6 litres, significantly larger than other cordless vacuum cleaners on the market
Replacing the bags is a breeze as they come equipped with a convenient tab for easy closure once removed. This ensures that no dust or debris escapes during the process – what goes in stays in. While there is an ongoing cost for replacement bags, they come in a box of 10 and are unlikely to be used up in a year.
The second filtration stage is the Tritex filter which sits between the HepaFlo bag and the motor. This unique three-layered microtex filtration system minimises any dust that may enter the motor or exhaust.
Storage
Designed for convenience, Henry Cordless has space for two favorite tools, or more if they are nested. Never again will you have to frantically search through cluttered cupboards for your go-to cleaning equipment. With Henry Cordless, they are always at your fingertips, neatly stored on the back side of the vacuum.
For added convenience there is also a slot for the cleaning wand, perfect for pausing mid-vacuum or storing it away after use. No more fears of being hit by a falling wand when opening the storage cupboard
Although Henry Cordless is a compact cylindrical vacuum, the hose and tubing of Henry can be quite long. If this is not disassembled during storage, he can take up quite a large amount of vertical space.
Ease of Use
The main feature of Henry Cordless – without stating the obvious – is his lack of a cord. This instantly transforms him into a lightweight and convenient vacuum cleaner. The absence of a cord is a game-changer, eliminating the common hassle of dealing with tangled cables and the need to constantly plug and unplug when moving through the house.
By eliminating the cord and doing away with the cable rewind mechanism, he is inherently lighter. By being lighter and smaller he is now portable and can be used for caravans, cars, anywhere off grid, as well as being manageable to carry up and down stairs. This makes vacuuming less of a chore, even for those with limited strength.
Henry’s rubber wheels glide smoothly on carpet and hard floors, and his lightweight design makes him easy to maneuver around the house. But like all canister vacuums, getting Henry to follow you around the house and not get caught on table legs and walls can be an art form. He has a rubber bumper running around the outside of him, which can have a tendency to stick him to surfaces.
The carry handle is great for moving him around the house, and being a lightweight at 6.4kg, is easy to carry up and down stairs.
Henry Cordless is easy to assemble without referring to the manual, and there are some neat conformations of the wand to reach high areas. The wand and hose pieces don’t click but slide within each other. Some people feel that this is a bit flimsy, and there have been reports of the plastic splitting.
The maneuverability of the wand is excellent and the clever nozzle design makes it easy to get between chairs and even under beds.
It’s easy to switch between carpets and hard floors when using the combi tool.
Bags are easy to access when the need arises – just unclip the lid and pull the filter off to get to the bags.
It’s a bit like comparing apples and oranges, but Henry Cordless has a much more powerful motor than other cordless stick-type vacuums. However, the compromise is that it has a shorter battery life of 30 minutes compared to an hour.
Arguably this should be enough to clean most homes, but in some cases, either larger homes or homes with pets, this may not be long enough. There have been reports of the batteries only lasting 20-25 minutes and not 30 minutes. Certainly if the high speed mode is used, the battery life will be shorter.
Looking after the battery will be important for extending the cleaning time. There is some general information in the user manual for how to charge and store the batteries. The Henry Cordless used to come with 2 batteries, but not any longer. A second battery can however be purchased separately to extend the cleaning time.
Like all batteries, they do have a limited ability to store charge forever and there will be a natural decline in the lifespan of the battery. Battery life can be expected to be good for up to a year before noticing a decline. So regardless if you want to run with one or two batteries, it is probable that a new battery will need to be purchased at some point.
Use on Carpet
Henry Cordless has reduced suction compared to Corded Henrys, having a less powerful 250W motor compared to 620W, which is a more than 50% reduction. Remembering that corded Henry’s are exceptionally powerful, Henry Cordless’s suction is more than adequate. It is effortless to use and his suction levels are excellent for general day-to-day vacuuming.
Because Henry Cordless is not as powerful, and because he doesn’t have a rotating brush, he may not be ideal for homes with pets. Pet hair can be challenging to remove and either require very high levels of suction, or an agitating brush, both of which Henry Cordless does not possess. He can pick up pet hair, but it can require multiple passes, which cuts into the battery time for cleaning the rest of the house
Use on Hard Floors
Henry Cordless shines when it comes to hard floor cleaning. With a simple switch to hard floor mode, Henry’s suction effortlessly picks up dirt and debris. The wide cleaning path allows you to cover larger areas in a shorter amount of time.
Car Cleaning
Henry Cordless is a perfect option for cleaning cars. He is compact and light enough to easily carry out to the car, and has no cords to get tangled around tyres. His suction is perfect for light, quick car cleaning jobs.
Comparison to other Henry Vacuum Cleaners
Henry
Throughout this review we have been comparing Henry Cordless to the original Henry. They share similar features, in design, bag size, attachments, and filtration. However Henry is more powerful and won’t run out of juice. He is also heavier and not portable.
Henry Quick
Henry Quick cordless vacuum cleaner is the other battery powered vacuum in the Henry range. Henry Quick vacuum is a stick-type cleaner which has a smaller canister (pod) size of 1L compared to Cordless’ 6L. Quick has a run time of 70 minutes and can be charged in 150 minutes.

Should You Buy a Henry Cordless?
The Henry Cordless vacuum gives an ideal mix of convenience, performance and versatility that you can’t get in other models or brands.
Its cordless design eliminates the hassle of dealing with tangled cords and switching power outlets. Its reduced weight and compact size make it easy to carry and maneuver, particularly useful for quick clean-ups or off grid cleaning in the car, caravan or cabin.
The 30 minute battery life and suction performance is suitable for most cleanups and house cleans, but is not for everyone. If you have a large house, or pets, or don’t want to commit to purchasing new batteries further down the line, then maybe reconsider purchasing a Henry Cordless.
However if you are looking for a reliable, lightweight, portable vacuum with suction levels higher than similarly or higher priced stick vacuums, then Henry Cordless is your man.
