Red Henry Eco

The Henry Eco vacuum cleaner combines the performance and design of Numatic Henry, with the most energy-efficient motor in the Henry Hoover Range. Its low power consumption, quiet operation, and adaptable attachments make it suitable for various cleaning needs while also being conscious of its environmental impact. In this review, we will take an in-depth look at the features and potential drawbacks of the Henry Eco, helping you to determine if it’s the best choice for your cleaning needs and carbon footprint.

What Makes Henry Eco Different

Henry Cordless is an energy-efficient vacuum cleaner, by way of a less powerful motor than Henry, which reduces the electricity cost by 30%. The packaging is also made from 80% recycled material.

Pros

  • Reduced electricity use
  • Reduced suction makes it easier to use
  • Better for the environment
  • Quieter

Cons

  • Suction is inferior to Henry

Our Verdict

Henry Eco is a great addition to the Numatic International Henry Range. Although it’s not the most powerful Henry hoover, its performance is still very good and has no issues tackling everyday vacuuming tasks with ease. As we will see later, the actual energy savings are marginal, however the reduced suction can make him easier to use on long-pile carpet, which I feel is the main benefit.

Tools and Attachments

For all your cleaning needs, Henry Eco has the perfect tool. The Henry Eco vacuum cleaner is equipped with all the essential features of a genuine Henry model. It comes with the standard attachments for versatile use and all-round cleaning, plus the addition of a specialised EcoBrush which efficiently gets the most out of the reduced power. Attachments include:

  • Combination floor tool
  • Dusting brush
  • Mattress and upholstery tool
  • Crevice tool
  • EcoBrush

Combi Floor Tool

The floorhead attachment for Henry the vacuum is a versatile tool that seamlessly transitions from hard floors to carpets. Henry’s powerful suction provides consistent and effective cleaning on any flooring. A simple flick of the switch on the tool allows you to adjust between modes, raising or lowering the brush as needed.

While the floorhead works well for general vacuuming, it may not be as effective in removing pet hair. This is because it relies solely on suction and does not have a rotating brush to agitate and collect stubborn hair from carpets. For better pet hair removal, the EcoBrush attachment will be much more suitable

Dusting Brush

Henry’s dusting brush is perfect for reaching those tough spots that are often overlooked by other cleaning tools. It excels at tidying shelves, blinds, and delicate surfaces. While it may not be the best for pet hair, its versatility makes it a valuable addition to any cleaning toolkit

Upholstery Nozzle

Mattress and Upholstery Tool

This tool is perfect for deep cleaning sheets, mattresses, and couches. It is also gentle enough to use on delicate materials, keeping your furniture free of dirt and stains. The specialised mattress attachment from Henry effectively removes dust and allergens, creating a more hygienic living space.

Crevice Nozzle

Henry’s crevice nozzle is the ultimate tool for reaching into tight spaces. Whether you’re taking on a DIY project, cleaning out your car, or tidying up after furry friends, this versatile attachment will make the task a breeze. From hidden corners to narrow crevices, the crevice nozzle ensures that no spot in your home goes untouched

EcoBrush

The eco brush uses the suction of the vacuum to turbo  spin an internal brush that beats the carpet and draws out stubborn cat and dog hair. It is similar to the Airobrush which comes with Henry Xtra and Henry Home except it is narrower (190mm) and thereby creates more suction power. The addition of this turbo charged floor head cleverly compensates for the reduction in power.

Are Henry Pet’s Attachments Good Quality

Henry’s attachments, like all Numatic products, are constructed from strong plastic designed to withstand frequent use without easily breaking. This consistent level of quality guarantees that Henry will continue to be a dependable cleaning partner for many years. You can confidently tackle any cleaning job knowing that the durability of the attachments won’t be an issue.

Features

The Henry Eco model boasts all the same excellent features of the standard Henry Vacuum: An uncomplicated design, extended reach, and convenient storage for on-board tools.

What separates Eco from other Henry models is the motor power has been reduced by 30% –  from 620 Watts to 420W. By compromising on power, the gain is in electricity savings, and can also result in him being easier to use or push on longer piled carpet.

So how much savings can we expect from using Henry Eco? Based from the current cost of electricity in the UK the cost between the 2 models is:

Henry Original – £0.15/60 minutes

Henry Eco – £0.10/60 minutes

So if we spend 60 minutes vacuuming with Henry per week it will cost £7.80 per year

Compared to vacuuming with Henry Eco for 60 minutes per week, costing £5.20 per year

A modest saving of £2.60 per year.

Aside from electricity savings, 80% of the packaging is made from recycled materials, and although no different from other Henry’s (except Quick which is currently made in China), he is manufactured in the UK, also reducing the carbon footprint.

To assist in having reduced power – which is not ideal for tackling pet hair – he comes with an additional floor head – the EcoBrush. This floorhead contains a turbo powered rotating brush which agitates dust and excels at collecting pet hair.

Filter

Just like Henry, Henry Eco boasts a two-stage filtration system that is designed to keep your home free of dust, debris and dander

Replacing Henry Filter
Hepaflo filtration bags

The first stage of the filter system is the HepaFlo filter bag, which has been specially developed to trap dust, debris and dander. These bags are large and thick with a generous capacity of 6 litres, significantly larger than other vacuum cleaners on the market

Replacing the bags is a breeze as they come equipped with a convenient tab for easy closure once removed. This ensures that no dust or debris escapes during the process – what goes in stays in. While there is an ongoing cost for replacement bags, they come in a box of 10 and are unlikely to be used up in a year.

The second filtration stage is the Tritex filter which sits between the HepaFlo bag and the motor. This unique three-layered microtex filtration system minimises any dust that may enter the motor or exhaust.

Storage

Henry Tool Storage

Designed for convenience, Henry Eco has space for two favorite tools, or more if they are nested. Never again will you have to frantically search through cluttered cupboards for your go-to cleaning equipment. With Henry Eco, they are always at your fingertips, neatly stored on the back side of the vacuum.

For added convenience there is also a slot for the cleaning wand, perfect for pausing mid-vacuum or storing it away after use. No more fears of being hit by a falling wand when opening the storage cupboard

Although Henry Cordless is a compact cylindrical vacuum, the hose and tubing of Henry can be quite long. If this is not disassembled during storage, he can take up quite a large amount of vertical space.

Ease of Use

The main feature of Henry Eco is his reduced power. My first reaction was thinking that this would be a negative, but it actually makes him easier to use, without compromising on performance. The reduction in power is just right.

Full power Henrys can be quite difficult to push on plush carpets due to the high suction. By having reduced power, he is easier to operate and may be more suitable in homes with new or plush carpets. The power is still very high and he has no difficulty with general vacuuming and even for cleaning up after DIY projects.

Another benefit of having reduced power is he is quieter than other Henrys. The reduced power isn’t obviously noticeable but the reduced noise is. In operation he has a noise reading of 55dB, compared to Henry who operates between 70-75 dB.

However, when the turbo-powered Eco-Brush is being used, this makes him noticeably louder. Another downside of the EcoBrush is that pet and human hair needs to be manually removed from the brush as an ongoing maintenance.

Henry’s rubber wheels glide smoothly on carpet and hard floors, and his lightweight design makes him easy to maneuver around the house.  But like all canister vacuums, getting Henry to follow you around the house and not get caught on table legs and walls can be an art form. He has a rubber bumper running around the outside of him, which can have a tendency to stick him to surfaces.

The carry handle is great for moving him around the house, and given he is not overly heavy at 7.7kg he should be fine for most people to lug up and down the stairs. Due to his shape, he doesn’t sit well on stairs so will need to be held or wedged into position to clean individual steps.

Henry Eco is easy to assemble without referring to the manual, and there are some neat conformations of the wand to reach high areas. The wand and hose pieces don’t click but slide within each other. Some people feel that this is a bit flimsy, and there have been reports of the plastic splitting.

The maneuverability of the wand is excellent and the clever nozzle design makes it easy to get between chairs and even under beds.

It’s easy to switch between carpets and hard floors when using the combi tool.

Bags are easy to access when the need arises – just unclip the lid and pull the filter off to get to the bags.

Use on Carpet

Henry Eco has reduced suction compared to Henrys, having a less powerful  420W motor compared to 620W. Remembering that corded Henry’s are exceptionally powerful, Henry Eco’s suction is more than adequate. It is effortless to use and his suction levels  are excellent for general day-to-day vacuuming.

Because of the reduced suction he is actually easier to push on carpet and rugs, which many people find difficult with full power Henrys.

A great addition to Henry Eco is the addition of the EcoBrush. This rotating brush is great for picking up pet hair. When this brush head is used on carpet, it can be more difficult to move the head around, but works great on furniture and upholstery.

Use on Hard Floors

Henry Eco shines when it comes to hard floor cleaning. With a simple switch to hard floor mode, Henry’s suction effortlessly picks up dirt and debris. The wide cleaning path allows you to cover larger areas in a shorter amount of time.

Car Cleaning

As a corded vacuum, Henry Eco is not the most convenient option when it comes to cleaning your car. Unless you have easy access to a power outlet in your garage or a long extension cord, using Henry for car cleaning may prove to be a challenge.

Additionally, his bulky size and cords can easily get caught around your tires, causing frustration.

However, with the handy attachment of a mattress tool or EcoBrush directly to the hose, Henry becomes the perfect tool for deep cleaning seats, floor wells, and boots. The crevice tool is also essential for reaching those tight spaces between and under seats

Comparison to other Henry Vacuum Cleaners

Henry

Throughout this review we have been comparing Henry Eco to the original Henry. They share similar features, in design, bag size, attachments, and filtration, with the Original Henry having a more powerful motor and more powerful suction.

Red Henry hoover

Henry Cordless

Another vacuum cleaner in the Henry range which has reduced power is the Henry Cordless. Being a battery powered vacuum cleaner, he has a reduced engine power of 250W and a suction of 1200mm H2O compared to Eco’s 1750mm H20.

So, Henry Eco sits nicely in the middle of these two cleaners, a nice compromise between power and efficiency.
